2. The 250-year-old garden of Lal Bagh

The parks in Bangalore take pride of place, led by Lal Bagh, which deserves such distinction for a city which boasts 40% of its landscape as gardens. Started in 1760 by the ruler, Hyder Ali, this sprawling garden has trees which are over 250 years old, with huge trunks which tell their own story.

3. HAL Aerospace Museum

Bangalore has many museums but this museum is the only one India which traces the growth of aviation over time, using photographs and static displays, as well as motorized cross sections of models of aero engines and their functions. 5. The Sprawling Bannerghatta National Park

Spread over 25,000 acres, this park is a forest designated as a biological reserve and one of the biggest tourist attractions in Bangalore, where you can go on a 6 kilometres safari to look at tigers and lions in their natural habitat.

The park has a sanctuary for elephants, which roam freely without being chained. The park also has a zoo and a museum. The park is great for trekking and hiking and is also home to some ancient temples.

6. Bangalore Palace

Meant to resemble the Windsor Palace, Bangalore Palace was opened in 1878, having being constructed over four years. The Palace Grounds is today where many high-profile gigs are held. Iron Maiden, for example, played here, as did Metallica.

1. ISKCON Temples

Bangalore is home to one of the largest of the ISKCON temples in the world to Sri Radha Krishna at Rajaji Nagar. ISKCON is a society for the promotion of Krishna Consciousness across the world. The organisation runs the Akshaya Patra foundation, which feeds the poor and needy. ISKCON has also built another temple to Sudarshana and Narsimha on the Kanakapura road in Bangalore.

2. Chokkanathaswamy Temple

Located in Domlur, this temple to Lord Vishnu built in the 10th century by Chola kings is reputed to be the oldest of all the temples in Bangalore. Visit here for the beautiful architecture and sculptures adorning the temple. Don’t miss the pillars which have inscriptions depicting the Dashavataras, or the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu.

3. Jamia Masjid

This is the largest of the mosques in Bangalore, located in the city’s market area. It is a very big mosque made of Rajasthani style marble and is very big. 4. St. Mary’s Basilica

Located in Shivaji Nagar, this oldest church in Bangalore holds the status of a minor basilica and has many devotees and tourists visiting it. Built originally by Tamil refugees in the 17th century, the current version of the church was constructed between 1856-1882. The stained glass windows are very famous as are the gothic arches and ornamental motifs adorning this church.
