This is the most commonly taken route. It is punctuated by many visit-worthy stops. The route takes approximately 4 hours across 180 kilometres on NH 275. The Channapatna route is bustling with traffic throughout the day so leave early in the morning.

Route 2: The Kanakapura Route

Bangalore → Kanakapura → Malavalli → Bannur → Harohalli → Chikkahalli → Mysore

This is also a popular route across on 948 and will take you around 4 hours across a distance of 160 kilometers. The Kanakpura route witnesses lesser traffic and is also smooth to drive on. Diversions and detours will take you through less maintained, winding and broken roads but it is manageable.

• Mekedatu: Revel in the clean and fresh waters in this spot near Kanakpura. Take a boat ride or just sit around doing nothing.
• Chunchi Falls: On the Kanakpura Road, you will find this breathtaking waterfall, where you can hang around and take lots of pictures.
• Shivanasamudra: Take a detour from Malavalli and reach this gorgeous waterfalls and be amazed by its natural beauty.
• Talakadu: A few kilometres from Shivanasamudra, you will find this little-known site which has 30 buried temples. A good place to explore.

Route 3: The Pandavapura Route

This is probably a less taken route, but is filled with its own charm nonetheless. It will take you around 4 hours across 160 kilometers on NH275. It basically is the same route as the Channapatna, with a slight detour at Pandavapura before reaching Mysore.

• Driving during monsoons can be tricky if you are not on the highway, and you need to be careful of the potholes.
• These roads have many big and small restaurants and food stations which you will find convenient.
• Be careful of heavy vehicles like buses and trucks as you will find plenty of them on the busy Channapatna route.
