Beaches are usually about water sports, ebbs and tides. While some are safe, others may be only good for a photo opportunity and for enjoying the sun setting over the horizon, as Daman and Diu are on the west coast of India. In any case, expect these tropical waters to be warm.
They are island paradises, which make tourists flock to them seeking rest and recreation. Connected to the Gujarat coast by a creek, these towns offer many popular beaches. Let’s talk about the best of them.
Spectacular Daman and Diu Beaches
1. Jampore Beach
Head to the Jampore beach for a variety of rides, jet skiing, motor boat rides, parasailing, quad-bikes and sand biking. What’s more, this attractive beach is located south of Moti Daman and offers low tides and calm waters, making it one of the safest beaches for swimming.
A picturesque spot for clicking pictures, Jampore also offers casuarina groves, for picnic lovers. Probably the best beach in Daman.
2. Devka Beach
Though one can’t swim at the Devka beach, it is extremely popular among tourists who visit here for a stroll along the clean sands with friends.
Taking pictures on the white sands or visiting the amusement park and musical fountains are worthy alternative attractions. People also visit here for the food stalls and the amazing fare offered by them.
3. Vanakbara Beach
This is another Daman beach where the tides are high and swimming is considered unsafe. The location is not crowded and a great view of the beach from the high ground makes it possible to enjoy the sunset over the waters.
4. Ghoghla Beach
Ghoghla beach is a choice destination of people looking for swimming, surfing and parasailing opportunities. Fall in love with this beautiful and clean beach which is really enjoyed by anyone who does not want a crowded beach.
This beach is quiet and has none of the bustle and commercial activities you usually find in the beaches here.
5. Nagoa Beach
This palm-fringed beach is shaped like a horseshoe and surrounded by palm trees. Its secluded, serene and peaceful atmosphere make it one of the best beaches in the country, and people flock here for swimming and picnics on its sun-kissed white sands. Sunbathe, indulge in water sports, ride ponies and camels, take a swim or just wade in the shallows.
6. Tithal Beach
This beach is a popular destination with a lot of food stalls and horse and camel rides. The sand here is very dark and the sunsets are extremely picturesque. The beach is calm and relaxing but could get quite crowded on weekends.
7. Jallandhar Beach
This beautiful and quiet beach offers visitors a variety of water sports. It is also a great beach for swimming, and is known for its peaceful and serene surroundings.
Play on the soft sands of the beach, listen to the gentle sway of the trees and the sea. Unwind and leave behind all the stress of your work-a-day life, as you replenish your energy levels. Visit the famous Jallandhar temple, if so inclined.
8. Chakratirth Beach
Legend has it that this is the place where Krishna killed the demon, Jallandhar, with the footprints of the God carved into the rocks here. The place is not too crowded and is much favoured for that reason though we cannot really say when it will become overcrowded too. A walk along the sands might be an enjoyable experience.
9. Udvada Beach
Noted for the beauty of its sunset, Udvada Beach is on the south of Daman. The sands are speckled with stones and shells, and the beach is not known to be teeming with tourists. Visit when the sun retires, for the image of the sun along the horizon is wonderful.
10. Gomatimata Beach
Located to the west of Diu, this beach is quiet and peaceful. The white sands are soft and inviting, and mesmerise visitors with its quietness and the gently rolling waves. The tides are high, making the water unsafe for swimming but the serene atmosphere of this beach is quite an attraction in itself.
When visiting Daman and Diu beaches, do find the time to do things away from the beaches too, like visiting the Daman Fort, St. Jerome Fort, INS Khukri Memorial, the Zampa gateway, the lighthouse and the beautiful temples and churches of ancient heritage and magnificent architecture.
Let the soft sands cushion you and the palm trees wave their fronds in sync with the gentle winds of the coast. At all times, make sure the beach is safe before venturing into the waters.
