It is expected that the ferry can accommodate at most 300 passengers. The sea route has not been in operation since 2004; the year which witnessed Scandinavian vessel carrying the tourists to and fro.
The Official Notification came as a Big Surprise
Even after getting a nod from the Central Government, the ship failed to start its bookings and fix the fares due to the delay from the Indian Register of Shipping and the Directorate General of Shipping.
Nevertheless, in a notification dated January 29, 2018, it has been clarified that the ferry service between Mumbai and Goa is all set to begin by the end of February 2018. It has been stated that owing to a delay in the certification from the concerned authorities, the ferry failed to start in December.
Further Details About the Much-Awaited Cruise
The ferry would be operational round the year except for the monsoon season; a step as a measure to prevent any casualties per se. The fare is expected to be revealed at the commercial launch of the cruise service.
The cruise is set to be anchored at the Mumbai port. To be peculiar, it will operate from the domestic cruise terminal at Mazgaon.
Catering to the International Cruise Liners
Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) is considering the option of constructing a new berth with an Integrated Cruise Terminal to cater to the International as well as Domestic liners. This is perhaps the highlight of this project as the integration of this service with the International market could help India in a number of reasons.
The authorities are trying to get some funds from Sagarmala as well to serve this issue as soon as possible. The Mumbai – Goa cruise service is a matter of great pride for the Indians indeed. The reasons stated above say it all.
